I've been working as a business analyst for almost two years and created hundreds of dashboard with Tableau, I have to say this software makes my work way easier and brings me so much fun!
I remember when I made a presentation to my classmates about Tableau in the Digital Strategy course at NYU Stern of Business, one of them asked me a question "What would you say the difference between Tableau and Excel"?
I was so nervous and messed up with the answer because they are two totally different software, how can I tell? Excel is a good analytics tool and people love it for many years, but Tableau is a game-changer and the trending of the future analytics software.
I recommend Tableau to business analysts because it is a software that can technically enable business people who have no coding experience.
First, There're tons of data sources you can choose based on your business needs. It also provides tableau online to upload your dashboards and raw tables into the cloud to speed up loading time.
Second, data manipulation is fast and easy with Tableau. The functions I often use to prepare data are table joins, split, table union, pivot, and data blending.
VS.
Third, data visualization and dashboard designing are super fun with Tableau. Simply drag and drop dimensions or measures to the columns and rows first and then you can choose many different types of charts, change colors, create calculations, add reference lines, show trends, make dual-axis chats, add filters, etc.
Tableau is powerful and flexible, I didn't know it has so many useful functions until I acquired my Tableau Desktop Associate Certificate. Now, I'm pursuing my professional level with Tableau e-learning and writing blogs to take some notes of my experience and study. I'm on my way to a Tableau Professional! I hope you can also share your ideas with me about this software and your experience of complex analytics.
Happy analyzing with Tableau!
